538 Erie Boulevard W flag

The former C.G. Meaker Food Company Warehouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010 as part of a Multiple Property Submission for Industrial Resources in the City of Syracuse.

The listing was an outcome of the Ford Foundation-funded Creative Communities Initiative, a project I managed during my time at the Metropolitan Development Association (MDA). The intent was to better position this and other historic industrial properties in Syracuse for redevelopment through the use of state and federal historic tax credits.

In May 2016, following a $6.5 million historic renovation, the building reopened as 538 Erie. The mixed-use property, which sits on the edge of the Park Ave. neighborhood, is anchored by Home HeadQuarters on the ground floor and contains 33 apartments on the upper floors and a rooftop deck overlooking downtown.
